What police will do when you report family violence
We will act to protect people experiencing family violence. We will investigate every report we receive.
We will do several things to help increase your safety before we attend a report of family violence, while we are there, and after we leave.
Before police attend a report of family violence
Before attending a report of family violence, we will conduct some background checks.
We will check:
- the location and people involved (including a National Police Reference System check)
- if there has been past family violence, including any intervention orders in place
- if firearms are known to be at the location
- if people involved are known to have access to firearms.
Police will make a safety plan based on known risks.
