Subpoena coordination

Learn about the Victoria Police Subpoena Coordination Unit, how to serve a subpoena on Victoria Police and how to pay your compliance fee.

The Subpoena Coordination Unit (SCU) is part of the Victoria Police Legal Services Department.

SCU is the central coordination point for all subpoenas served on Victoria Police.

The Unit's primary responsibility is to:

  • receive
  • assess
  • coordinate, and
  • monitor subpoenas to ensure compliance.

Subpoenas are recorded on a central database and distributed for action.

The SCU provides Victoria Police staff with access to appropriate resources and information. This enables them to fulfil their lawful obligations.

Serving a subpoena on Victoria Police

Subpoenas and accompanying documentation must be served by email to subpoena-service-smu@police.vic.gov.au.

All documentation must be in PDF format.

Subpoena compliance fees

The Victoria Police (Fees and Charges) Regulations 2024 are effective from 18 June 2024.

Fees and charges for compliance with subpoenas requiring production of Victoria Police documents are:

  • $74.00 for the first 10 pages
  • $1 per page for each additional page beyond the first 10.

Once the total number of document pages is known, you will receive a Payment Advice notice. This will outline the details of your subpoena, and the total amount to be paid.

Paying your subpoena compliance fee

You must pay the subpoena compliance fee through our Westpac PayWay portal. A link to the Portal will be provided on the Payment Advice notice.

The fee for the first 10 pages of documents increase annually on 1 July. This is in line with an increase to monetary fee units as determined by Government.
