Fuel theft

How retailers can report fuel theft from their petrol station, and respond to criminal offences at their business.

Fuel theft is when a customer leaves a petrol station without paying for their fuel.

Report fuel theft after the offender has left

Retailers can report fuel theft from their petrol station to the police through our Online Reporting service.

You should only use this service if:

  • fuel has been stolen from your petrol station within Victoria
  • you have noticed the theft after the offender has left the site
  • no other offending occurred (i.e theft from within the store).

If the offender stole anything other than fuel from your store, please contact Triple Zero (000).

Report fuel theft in progress

If the offender is still on site and you need immediate police response, call Triple Zero (000).

Note down any information about the offender and their vehicle, such as:

  • their age, appearance and clothing
  • the vehicle make, model, colour, and registration number
  • the date and time the theft occurred
  • the type of fuel taken
  • if CCTV footage is available.
