Report family violence to police

To report family violence to police:

Victoria Police investigate all reports of family violence.

You can make a report if you are experiencing family violence yourself, concerned about someone you know, or if you work for a support service.

You can contact police at any time to talk about family violence – even if it happened a long time ago and you have not told anyone about it before.

Report family violence to Crime Stoppers

You can also report family violence to Crime Stoppers Victoria.

Please note: reports to Crime Stoppers will not receive an immediate police response.

You should always call Triple Zero (000) if you need help straight away.

Report family violence or sexual offences perpetrated by a Victoria Police employee

Victoria Police take allegations of family violence committed by Victoria Police employees seriously.

A dedicated unit investigates the most serious allegations of family violence or sexual offences committed by Victoria Police employees.

Report a family violence intervention order or safety notice breach

It is a criminal offence to disobey a family violence intervention order or safety notice.

If there is a breach of a family violence intervention order or safety notice:

  • in an emergency or life-threatening situation, call Triple Zero (000)
  • if there is no immediate danger or you do not need an urgent police response, contact your local police station during their opening hours.

Discreet help

In some situations, it may be difficult or unsafe to ask police for help.

Safe Steps offer confidential support 24 hours, 7 days a week. To keep you safe, they can provide advice about:

  • safety planning, including ways to stay safe at home, and
  • emergency accommodation when you need to leave your home to be safe.
