How Victoria Police’s Our People area supports the organisation through recruitment and development.

Our People supports the entire employee experience, from hiring and retaining top talent to fostering a healthy, safe, and supportive workplace.

Purpose and priorities

Our People supports operational policing by:

  • selecting employees with the right skills, and
  • developing and ensuring their health, safety and wellbeing.

Our People pays more than 17,000 employees a fortnight and negotiates and manages their working conditions.

It works in partnership with other areas on its programs and service provision.

Key priorities

Our People's key priorities focus on positive outcomes through employee health and wellbeing, and continual improvement of human resources (HR) services.

Our People aims to:

  • Support delivery of community safety by prioritising employee health and wellbeing. They connect our people with the resources they need to be safe, to thrive and to succeed.
  • Ensure HR services are continuously improved to align with organisational goals and changing needs. This supports delivery of the role and functions of Victoria Police.
  • Deliver lawful, fair and equitable outcomes for our people through agile, fit for purpose HR policy, processes, and innovative best practices which support the organisation. These help to develop and maintain capable, well led, high-performing teams.

2025-2026 projects and initiatives

Our People's projects and initiatives support the delivery of the HRC's key priorities. They include:

  • Commander, Police and Victorian Public Service Enterprise Agreements
  • streamlining and modernising merit-based selection and promotion
  • Health Safety and Wellbeing Strategy and Action Plan
  • Gender Equality Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan 2026-2029
  • driving continuous improvement in police recruitment process and practice.
