National Police Remembrance Day is an honoured occasion.
It's observed across Australia on the 29th of September.
This year, in line with other states and jurisdictions, the Victorian march and service will be held on Friday 27 September.
It's a sad day for all of us, but also a proud day where we stand together as a policing family to honour the 175 Victoria Police officers killed since Victoria Police was established in 1853.
Like every police officer, they accepted the challenges and the undeniable rewards of policing.
We remember their bravery and the price paid for their choice to serve the Victorian community and Victoria Police.
We also remember and honour the lives of 14 Victoria Police employees who've lost their lives over the past 12 months through illness or other circumstances.
We honour the officers who've died in the line of duty from police forces across Australia and in the South West Pacific region.
Sadly, this year we pay our respects to our fallen colleagues from South Australia and Samoa Police Service.
We will also honour our Queensland Police Service colleague killed during this year's annual Wall to Wall Ride for Remembrance.
We will always value the bravery, service and commitment of police officers who've paid the ultimate price while protecting their community.
They will never be forgotten.
